Do Top People Ignore your Recruiting Messages?

One of the biggest problems employers have today is finding enough top people that are willing to discuss their job opportunities…especially in candidate driven markets!
Overcoming this obstacle means becoming successful at opening a meaningful conversation with top people and presenting a compelling rationale for them to seriously consider your job…when they otherwise might be reluctant to do so.
You cannot “court a candidate” you either don’t know about or when found refuses to begin a discussion about your career opportunity.
Famed hockey Hall of Famer Wayne Gretzky famously said, "You miss 100% of the shots you don't take."
As a Recruiter or Hiring Manager, "You won't hire 100% of the candidates you never talk to!"

This Hiring Problem has a Strategic Solution

Part of it is creating the proper search game plan BEFORE you ever begin the search. The right game plan will save you hours of wasted time, reduce frustration, improve offer acceptation rates, and result in filling your job much quicker.
The foundation of a superior hiring game plan is based on one of Stephen Covey’s “7 Habits of Successful People” habits: “Sharpen the Saw.” Here’s the story behind that habit.
A woodcutter strained to saw down a tree. A young man who was watching asked “What are you doing?”
“Are you blind?” the woodcutter replied. “I’m cutting down this tree.”
The young man was unabashed. “You look exhausted! Take a break. Sharpen your saw.”
The woodcutter explained to the young man that he had been sawing for hours and did not have time to take a break.
The young man pushed back… “If you sharpen the saw, you would cut down the tree much faster.”
The woodcutter said, “I don’t have time to sharpen the saw. Don’t you see I’m too busy?”
Can you imagine a professional sports team ever playing a game without a comprehensive game plan? Of course not. It’s their way of “sharpening the saw.” They NEVER play a game without comprehensive analysis of their competition and devoting considerable time preparing to win!
Being prepared, using the correct game plan will make the end result of hiring a top person much more likely and completed much quicker. At a minimum there are three key components that make up a hiring game plan...before you BEGIN your search.
You and your hiring team should never begin your search process without taking the time to create the right game plan...FIRST!
